The Media Council
Media Council is the government regulatory body
established in 1994 under the Press and Journalist Act as a body
governing media services and operations in Uganda. The role of
the media council is to:
• Regulate the conduct
& promote good ethical standards & discipline among
journalists, filmmakers, script writers, producers, artists, technicians
and any person involved in media work in the country
• To censor films, video
tapes, plays, & related apparatuses for public consumption
• To generally promote
the flow of information
• To exercise disciplinary
control over journalists, editors, publishers, producers,
technicians and any person involved in media work
Non-Ugandans interested in carrying out any film
or video production work, or any other work related to media,
need to get clearance from the Media Council.
